Picture this, a hardened criminal sits in the electric chair, ready to take his punishment. Just before the switch is thrown to end his life, the Father of the murder victims stands and says, "Wait, set him free! I'll take his place." It sounds crazy doesn't it? Most of us would want revenge instead. Why would an innocent man give his life for someone who has caused so much pain and deserves to die for his actions? Yet, this is exactly what Jesus did. Leaving the very throne-room of Heaven & the adoration of Angels, he took on our human form, suffered the harsh realities of earthly living with us and became the sacrifice for our sins. Even as Jesus hung, bleeding on the cross, after suffering horrendous treatment at the hands of mankind, He cried out, "Father forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." What kind of love is this?!

When a sinner realizes that God's forgiveness isn't just a bunch of pretty words, Mercy becomes real, even personal. Forgiveness for past and future mistakes is freely offered, not earned. A proud, sinful heart is devastated by the power of grace and there is born a desire to live in peace with other people. Hebrews 8:12 says "I, the Lord God will be merciful toward your unrighteousness and your sins I will remember no more." A peaceful eternity with God is only possible because of the Messiah's sinless life and sacrificial death.

The hardships of this world often cause us to harden our hearts- as we try to cope. Eventually, we find it's difficult to give & receive love. Without love, there is isolation & dispair. But hope & peace can still be found. No matter what your heritage, or your struggle, you can be clean and make a brand new start today!  God can take a heart of stone and make it a heart of flesh. Heaven longs for you to become a child of God. Will you open your heart to receive His love and say this prayer? "Abba, Father, I want to lay aside all pre-conceived ideas about who You are and what You want to do with my life. I accept Your mercy. I need You to be the Lord of my life. Cleanse me and calm my fears. Cover me in Christ's righteousness and save me for Your kingdom, Amen."
